Robert Walker, M.S.W., L.C.S.W.


Robert Walker, M.S.W., L.C.S.W., is Assistant Professor of Behavioral Science at the University of Kentucky Center on Drug and Alcohol Research with conjoint appointments in Social Work and Psychiatry. He has co-authored two books on violence victimization among women and written over sixty publications on substance abuse, professional ethics in clinical practice, partner violence perpetration and victimization, and traumatic brain injury.  Currently, Walker is the principal investigator for the Kentucky Substance Abuse Treatment Outcome Study, the IMPACT Outcome Study for case management services for SED children and youth, and is the evaluator for two federally funded (CSAT) projects and four other state funded projects.  He also serves as co-investigator on two federally funded partner violence studies in rural and urban areas. 

Before coming to the university, Walker had over 25 years experience in the community mental health system as a clinician and Community Mental Health Center director and he maintains close relationships with the mental health and other health providers throughout the state.  He has served on the Examination Committee of the Association of Social Work Boards, which develops licensing exams for 49 states and the Provinces of Canada. He was a gubernatorial appointee to the Traumatic Brain Injury Trust Fund for nine years.  Walker taught graduate level psychopathology and research courses in the College of Social Work and is a faculty associate of the University of Kentucky Center for the Study of Violence Against Women.
