Center Associates Michael Bardo, PhD, (Department of Psychology) is a Professor of Psychology who is studying novelty seeking using an animal model. Susan Barron, PhD, (Department of Psychology) is an associate Professor who is examining drug related pregnancy issues using animal models. Glenn Blomquist, PhD, (Department of Economics) is a Carl F. Pollard Professor of Health Economics, Professor of Economics and Public Policy, and Chair of the Department of Economics. Valuing changes in health and safety is one of his major research activities. Jim Clark, PhD, (College of Social Work) is an associate professor who is interested in clinical issues and evaluating treatment interventions. Richard Clayton, PhD, (School of Public Health) is the scientific director of the Center for Prevention Research and has NIDA funding to examine rural substance abuse as well as a major tobacco grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Joseph Conigliaro, MD, MPH, (Department of Medicine) is an associate Professor of Medicine and Health Services Mangement and Director of the Program for Quality, Safety and Patient Rights. His research interests include implementing best practices to address alcohol problems in primary care and other non-addiction care settings. Lewis Donohew, PhD, Emeritus, (Department of Communication) has NIDA funding to study sensation seeking and its relationship to media messages and drug use. Linda Dwoskin, PhD, (College of Pharmacy) is a professor who is examining the biological and related behavioral aspects of drug use with animal models with the goal of developing novel treatments for drug abse.. Mark T. Fillmore, PhD, (Department of Psychology) is an associate professor whose area of research is in behavioral neuroscience and psychopharmacology. Joseph L. Fink III, JD, (College of Pharmacy) is a professor whose research focuses on the legal framework for regulation of pharmacists, pharmacies pharmaceuticals as well as medical devices such as syringes and needles. Peter Giancola, PhD, (Department of Psychology) is an associate professor whose research is focused on identifying risk factors for alcohol-related aggression and substance abuse. Ellen Hahn, PhD, DNS, R.N., (College of Nursing) is playing a major role in prevention and research targeting tobacco use and tobacco control policy in Kentucky. Nancy Harrington, PhD, (Department of Communication) is involved in prevention research focused on designing and testing targeted and tailored message-based prevention interventions. Lon Hays, MD, (Department of Psychiatry) is interested in cocaine and mechanisms of action and is working with Tom Kelly on drug performance studies and is involved with the federally funded epidemiological study to examine the incidence and prevalence of alcohol and drug use in Kentucky Kelly Hill, MD, (Department of Psychiatry) is involved with adolescent drug abuse services and research. William Hoyt, PhD, (Department of Economics and Martin School of Public Policy) is involved in studies to examine the costs of interventions for substance abusers. Thomas Kelly, PhD, (Department of Behavioral Science) is funded by NIDA to examine abuse liability and other behavioral effects of drugs. Robert Kraus, MD, (Department of Psychiatry) has research interests in the delivery of prevention and treatment services. Betty Lorch, PhD, (Department of Psychology) has federally funded research focused in the areas of adolescence and sensation seeking. Donald Lynam, PhD, (Department of Psychology) is an associate professor with research concerns on the study of antisocial behavior across the lifecourse, beginning with early oppositional behavior, extending through childhood conduct disorder and adolescent delinquency, and ending with chronic offending in adulthood. Catherine Martin, MD, (Department of Psychiatry) is a professor with research interests in the relationships between impulsivity and drug abuse in adolescents. Rich Milich, PhD, (Department of Psychology) is a professor with research interests focused on adolescents and youth, particularly conduct disorders and ADHD. Sara Jo Nixon, Ph.D, (Department of Psychology) is a Professor whose research emphasis over the past 16 years has focused on the long-term consequences of substance abuse in a variety of populations including women, prisoners, ethnic/minority groups and the aging. Phil Palmgreen, PhD, (College of Communication) is carrying out NIDA funded research to examine communication messages focused on high sensation seekers and their drug use. Claudia Peck-Heath, PhD, (Human Enviromental Science Administration) has been active in research on women and the workplace with a special concentration on welfare-to-work populations. As part of her focus on welfare-to-work groups, her work has included examining groups at high risk for substance abuse and misuse. Sharon Rostosky, PhD, (Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology) is an assistant professor and a licensed psychologist who is examining the psychosocial context of religiosity/spirituality in adolescents and adults. Craig R. Rush, PhD, (Department of Behavioral Science) has research interests focused on the human behavioral pharmacology of commonly abused drugs. William Skinner, PhD, (Department of Sociology) is a Professor of Sociology with research interests including substance use and HIV as well as criminal behavior. Greg Smith, PhD, (Department of Psychology) is an Associate Professor who is engaged in research focused on alcohol and drug expectancies among adolescents. Ruth Staten, PhD, (College of Nursing) and Student Health Services is developing and evaluating interventions for UK students. Robert Straus, PhD, Emeritus, (Department of Behavioral Science) has served on the NIAAA Council and carried out landmark research on drinking practices of college students. Nate Sullivan, MSW, (College of Social Work) is involved with community services delivery aspects of alcohol and drug programs. Richard Sutphen, PhD, (College of Social
Work) has focused his research on adolescents, particularly
those adjudicated. Rick Zimmerman, PhD, (Virginia Commonwealth University) is funded by the National Institutes of Health to examine HIV prevention among adolescents and to study the effects of communicative messages to reduce drug use. |
